Skill Level: Absolute Beginner using PSP

This is part 14 of a series of tutorials for the absolute beginner with PSP.
It is recommended that you complete the tutorials in numerical sequence, as each new one will build on the knowledge gained by the previous tutorials.

This tutorial is my own creation; any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental

Program shortcuts will be given in parentheses



Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other PSP versions, some adjustments might be necessary)
Free 30 day PSP trial from Corel, available here

Performance Notes
This tutorial is in 3 parts:
- Preparation
- Frame
- Background

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Don't forget to save your work often

Preparation

1) Install filters if necessary
(If you install filters you need to restart PSP afterwards)

2) Download the zip file,
extract the files and save mask to your Mask folder,
texture to your Texture folder,
gold pattern to your Pattern folder,
open flower image and watermark in PSP

3) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

4) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Width = No greater than 460 Pixels
Height = No greater than 390
(If you use another image)

5) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 10.00, Strength = 20
Clipping = 7
Luminance only = Not Checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

6) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click to choose a dark Foreground color
(I chose #304d1c)

7) Materials Palette
Change Background to Pattern
Settings:
Pattern = Gold Pattern
Angle = 0, Scale = 100
Texture = Not checked

8) Window > Duplicate
Minimize copy

9) Edit > Copy



Frame

10) Layers > Promote Background Layer
(if necessary)

11) Layers > Load/Save Mask > Load Mask From Disk
Settings:
Mask = lbm41 or mask of choice
Source luminance = Checked
Fit to canvas = Checked
Invert transparency = Not checked
Hide all mask = Checked

12) Layers > Merge > Merge Group

13) Layers > New Raster Layer

14) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

15) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

16) Left click to flood fill new layer with Foreground Color

17) Effects > Texture Effects > Texture
Settings:
Texture = LB_texture30
Size = 120 %, Smoothness = 0
Depth = 5, Ambience = 0
Shininess = 0
Color = White
Angle = 315, Intensity = 50
Elevation = 30

18) Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten)

19) Selections > Select All

20) Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 76, Blur = 25.00
Color = Black
Fill interior with color = Not checked

21) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Symmetric = Checked
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

22) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 5
Color = Any color not in image

23) Magic Wand Tool
Settings:
Mode = Replace
Match mode = RGB Value
Tolerance = 0
Use all layers = Not checked
Contiguous = Checked
Feather = 0
Anti-alias = Checked
Outside

24) Select new border

25) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill selected border with Gold Pattern

26) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel = #2, Width = 8
Smoothness = 0, Depth = 10
Ambience = -32 (Minus)
Shininess = 0
Color = White, Angle = 315
Intensity = 50, Elevation = 50

27) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

28) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 40
Color = Any Color not in image

29) Magic Wand Tool
Select new Border

30) Edit > Paste Into Selection

31) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Diamonds

32) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Zoom Out and Flip

33) Effects > Plugins > Simple > 4 Way Average

34) Effects > Plugins > FM Tile Tools > Blend Emboss
Settings: (Default)
Horiz. Offset = -1.000
Vert. Offset = -1.000
Intensity = 0.250
Gray Level = 64
Red Blend = 0.938
Green Blend = 0.938
Blue Blend = 0.938
Edge Wrap = Checked

35) Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout

36) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

37) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 5
Color = Any color not in image

38) Magic Wand Tool
Select new border

39) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill selected border with Gold Pattern

40) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel

41) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

42) Selections > Select None

If you used my fuchsia image to do the tutorial:

43) Activate my watermark by clicking on its Title Bar

44) Edit > Copy

45) Activate framed image by clicking on its Title Bar

46) Edit > Paste As New Layer

47) Move Tool (M)
Move watermark to the bottom right corner of the fuchsia image

49) Add Watermark(s)

50) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set compression value to = 20
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 1x1 1x1 1x1 (None)
Save Exif data = Not checked



Background

51) Activate second copy of image

52) Image > Resize
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Not Checked
Width = 270 Pixels
Height = 270

53) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Default

54) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Zoom Out and Flip

55) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Top Left Mirror

56) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Diamonds

57) Effects > Plugins > FM Tile Tools > Blend Emboss

58) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

59) Layers > Duplicate

60) Image > Flip

61) Layers Palette
Reduce Opacity to 50
