Skill Level: Absolute Beginner using PSP
This is Lesson 14 of a series of tutorials for the absolute beginner with PSP.
It is recommended that you complete the tutorials in numerical order, as each new one will build on the knowledge gained by the previous tutorials

This tutorial is my own creation, any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental

Program shortcuts will be given in parentheses



Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other versions)
Free 30 day trial from Corel, available here

Graphic of choice
(Ideally with a central focus and colorful)



Mask

lbm41, available here



Texture

LB_texture30, available here



Pattern

Filters

Performance Notes

This tutorial is in 3 parts:
- Preparation
- Frame
- Background

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Download and install Filter if necessary
(If you install filters you need to restart PSP afterwards)

2) Download mask and place into your Mask Folder

3) Download texture and place into your Texture Folder

4) Download pattern and place into your Pattern Folder

5) File > Open
Open image of choice

6) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

7) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Width = No greater than 500 Pixels
Height = No greater than 380

8) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 10.00, Strength = 20
Clipping = 7
Luminance only = Not Checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

9) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click to choose a dark Foreground color
(I chose #304d1c)

10) Materials Palette
Change Background to Pattern
Settings:
Pattern = goldfill
Angle = 0, Scale = 100
Texture = Not checked

11) Window > Duplicate
Minimize copy

12) Edit > Copy



Frame

13) Layers > Promote Background Layer
(If necessary)

14) Layers > Load/Save Mask > Load Mask From Disk
Settings:
Mask = lbm41
Source luminance = Checked
Fit to canvas = Checked
Invert transparency = Not checked
Hide all mask = Checked

15) Layers > Merge > Merge Group

16) Layers > New Raster Layer

17) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

18) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

19) Left click to flood fill new layer with Foreground Color

20) Effects > Texture Effects > Texture
Settings:
Texture = LB_texture30
Size = 120 %, Smoothness = 0
Depth = 5, Ambience = 0
Shininess = 0
Color = White
Angle = 315, Intensity = 50
Elevation = 30

21) Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten)

22) Selections > Select All

23) Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 76, Blur = 25.00
Shadow color = Black
Fill interior with color = Not checked

24) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Symmetric = Checked
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

25) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 5
Color = Any color not in image

26) Magic Wand Tool
Settings:
Mode = Replace
Match mode = RGB Value
Tolerance = 0
Use all layers = Not checked
Contiguous = Checked
Feather = 0
Anti-alias = Checked
Outside

27) Select new border

28) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill selected border with Gold Pattern

29) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel = #2, Width = 8
Smoothness = 0, Depth = 10
Ambience = -32 (Minus)
Shininess = 0
Color = White, Angle = 315
Intensity = 50, Elevation = 50

30) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

31) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 40
Color = Any Color not in image

32) Magic Wand Tool
Select new Border

33) Edit > Paste Into Selection

34) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Diamonds

35) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Zoom Out and Flip

36) Effects > Plugins > Simple > 4 Way Average

37) Effects > Plugins > FM Tile Tools > Blend Emboss
Settings: (Default)
Horiz. Offset = -1.000
Vert. Offset = -1.000
Intensity = 0.250
Gray Level = 64
Red Blend = 0.938
Green Blend = 0.938
Blue Blend = 0.938
Edge Wrap = Checked

38) Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout

39) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

40) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 5
Color = Any color not in image

41) Magic Wand Tool
Select new border

42) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill selected border with Gold Pattern

43) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel

44) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

45) Selections > Select None

46) Raster > New Raster Layer

47) Add Watermark(s)

48) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set compression value to = 10
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 2x2 1x1 1x1
Save Exif data = Not checked



Background

49) Activate second copy of image

50) Image > Resize
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Not Checked
Width = 270 Pixels
Height = 270

51) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings: Default
Corner = Checked
Bidirectional = Checked
Horizontal offset (%) = 0
Vertical offset (%) = 0
Transition (%) = 0
Linear = Checked

52) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Zoom Out and Flip

53) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Top Left Mirror

54) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Diamonds
