Chruesimuesi Tag Tutorial

I used the awesome artwork of nesdigiart
I bought it from Creative Fabrica.
I have a subscription, pay monthly and can download what and as much as I want.
The images is from the album "Cute Watercolor Dogs Christmas Costume".
The word Chrüsimüsi (Chruesimuesi) is a word from my mother tongue (Bernese German) describing chaos.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginners
No outside Filters/Plugins used

This tutorial is my own creation; any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental

Program shortcuts will be given in parentheses

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other versions)
Free 30 day trial from Corel, available here

Performance Notes

This tutorial is in 2 parts:
- Preparation
- Tag

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Download Template in required format
Open in PSP

2) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

3) File > Open
Open image of choice

4) Window > Duplicate
Close original

5) Activate Template
Layers Palette:
Delete the Credit layer
Highlight bottom layer



Tag

6) Magic Wand Tool
Settings:
Mode = Add
Match mode = RGB Value
Tolerance = 0
Use all layers = Not checked
Contiguous = Checked
Feather = 0
Anti-alias = Checked Outside

7) Select the 3 sections "A"

8) On your tube:
Dropper Tool (E)
Left click to choose a Foreground color

9) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

10) Back to Template
Left click to flood fill with Foreground color

11) Selections > Select None

12) Magic Wand Tool
Select the 2 sections "B"

13) On your tube:
Dropper Tool
Left click to choose a Foreground color

14) Flood Fill Tool
Back to Template
Left click to flood fill with Foreground color

15) Selections > Select None

16) Magic Wand Tool
Select the 2 sections "C"

17) On your tube:
Dropper Tool
Left click to choose a Foreground color

Settings:
Horizontal Displacement
Amplitude = 7
Wavelength = 2
Vertical Displacement
Amplitude = 2
Wavelength = 3
Edge mode = Wrap

This is how mine looks now:

34) Edit > Paste As New Layer (your Tube)

35) Image > Resize (Shift + S)
Settings:
Width = 80 %
Height = 80
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Not checked
ok

36) Edit > Repeat Resize
Repeat until you have the tube showing to your liking.
Depending on the tube you work with, you might choose to resize in 50% steps to start with

37) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00, Strength = 47
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

38) Move Tool (M)
Move tube/s to position of your liking

39) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Horizontal & Vertical = 0
Opacity = 60, Blur = 6.00
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Not checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

40) Layers Palette
Activate bottom layer
Layers > New Raster Layer

41) Magic Wand Tool
Left click to select light Foreground color
Right click to select dark Background color

42) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill with Foreground color

43) Time to play:
a) Change Blend mode to "Saturation"
b) No? Try different Blend modes
c) No? Try with the Background color
d) No? Try with different Opacity
e) Hate it all? Delete the flood filled layer

44) Materials Palette
Change Foreground color to Black
(Or color of choice for Border)

45) Layers > New Raster Layer

46) Layers > Arrange > Bring to Top

47) Selections > Select All

48) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill new layer with Foreground color

49) Selections > Modify > Contract
Settings:
Number of Pixels = 2

50) Edit > Clear

51) Selections > Select None

52) Layers > Duplicate

53) Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Settings:
Radius = 3.00

54) Layers > Arrange > Move Down

55) Layers > New Raster Layer

56) Add your artist's copyrights

57) Text Tool (T)
Settings:
Font = Christmas Blessings (or Font of choice)
Size = 48 Points (or what suits your Font and Text)
Alignment = Center
Direction = Horizontal and Down
Anti-alias = Sharp
Stroke width = 1.0
Create as Vector
Auto kern = Checked
Kerning = 0 (or what suits your Font and Text)

58) Type Text of choice and click on Apply

59) Layers > Convert to Raster Layer

60) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel = #2, Width = 3
Smoothness = 10, Depth = 3
Ambience = 0, Shininess = 20
Color = White, Angle = 315
Intensity = 50, Elevation = 30

61) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical = 1
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 100, Blur = 2.00
(Or a setting of your liking)

62) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set Compression value to = 10
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 2x2 1x1 1x1
Save Exif data = Not checked
