Dance with Me Frame & BG Tutorial

I have used one of my own photographs for this tutorial

Skill Level: Advanced Beginners & Adventurous Others

Knowledge of using Filters is necessary (or learn how to get started with my ABC Tutorials)

This tutorial is my own creation; any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental

Program shortcuts will be given in parentheses



Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other versions)
Free 30 day trial from Corel, available here

(Width greater than height)

Impressionist, available here

Performance Notes

This tutorial is in 6 parts:

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Download and install Filters if necessary
(If you install filters you need to restart PSP afterwards)

2) Download the Texture and save to your Texture Folder

3) Download the Pattern (beads_greyscaled) and open in PSP

4) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original
Minimize the copy for later use

5) File > Open
Open image of choice

6) Window > Duplicate
Close original

7) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Width = 475 Pixels
Height = will self adjust
(= finished width of 581 Pixels)

8) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00, Strength = 47
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Not checked
(or a setting of your liking)

9) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click to choose a light Foreground color
(I chose #f9f9c3)
and dark Background color
(I chose #4b462b)

10) Window > Duplicate
Minimize copy

11) If you do not already have Manual Color Correction in your Toolbar:

a) View > Customize

b) In left pane, scroll down and Left Click on All Commands.

c) In the right hand pane, scroll until you find Manual Color Correction.

Click and drag it to where you want it placed on your Toolbar.

*Note: In PSP Version 9 and lower is a direct path (without having to put it on the Toolbar)
This path is:
Adjust > Color Balance > Manual Color Correction



Pattern Frame

12) Image > Resize
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Not checked
Height = 250 Pixels
Width = 250

13) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Default

14) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Zoom Out and Flip

15) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

16) Effects > Reflection Effects > Kaleidoscope
Settings:
Horizontal offset (%) = -4 (Minus)
Vertical offset (%) = -8 (Minus)
Rotation angle = 303
Scale factor = 5
Number of petals = 8
Number of orbits = 0
Radial suction = 14
Repeat = Checked

17) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

This will be called Pattern Frame for the rest of the tutorial

18) Minimize Pattern Frame
Do NOT close

19) Materials Palette
Change Background to Pattern Frame
Settings:
Pattern: Pattern you just created
Angle = 0, Scale = 100
Texture = Not checked



Pattern Beads

20) Activate beads_greyscaled.bmp

21) Manual Color Correction Tool
Settings:
Preset target color = UNchecked
Manual target color = Checked
Freehand selection = UNchecked
Colors
Source = #808080
Target = Foreground or Background color
(I chose a dark shade of my Foreground color by lowering the Lightness Setting)

This will be called Pattern Beads for the rest of the tutorial

22) Minimize Pattern Beads
Do NOT close

23) Materials Palette
Change Foreground to Pattern Beads
Settings:
Pattern: Pattern you just created
Angle = 0, Scale = 100
Texture = Not checked



Frame

24) Maximize copy of image

25) Layers > New Raster Layer

26) Selections > Select All

27) Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 75, Blur = 25.00
Color = Black
Fill interior with color = Not checked

28) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Symmetric = Checked
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

29) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 5
Color = Any color not in image

30) Magic Wand Tool
Settings:
Mode = Replace
Match mode = RGB Value
Tolerance = 0
Use all layers = Not checked
Contiguous = Checked
Feather = 0
Anti-alias = Checked
Outside

31) Select new border

32) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

33) Left click to flood fill new layer with Pattern Beads

34) Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen

35) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel = #2, Width = 5
Smoothness = 0, Depth = 3
Ambience = 0, Shininess = 0
Color = White, Angle = 315
Intensity = 30, Elevation = 30

36) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

37) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 39
Color = Any color not in image

38) Magic Wand Tool
Select new border

39) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new layer with Pattern Frame

40) Effects > Plugins > Impressionist > Impressionist
Settings:
Style = Charcoal: Default
Background = Image
Brush Size = 100 %
Coverage = 97 %
Pressure = 100 %
Apply

Pattern Background

55) Selection Tool (S) > Custom selection

64) Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged

65) Edit > Paste As New Image

66) Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Not Checked
Width = 2000 Pixels (or width of choice)
Height = 200
Placement = Left Middle Arrow

67) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical = 0, Horizontal = 5
Opacity = 50, Blur = 15.00
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Not checked

68) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Edge = Checked
Vertical = Checked
Width (%) = 50
Transition (%) = 50

69) Layers > New Raster Layer

70) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

71) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill new Layer with Pattern Background

72) Materials Palette
Change Background back to Color

73) Layers > New Raster Layer

74) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new layer with Background color
(I chose a very dark shade of my Background color instead)

75) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity of layer to 85
(or a setting of your liking)

76) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer


You are done!
Now you can assemble the stationery in LC or OE/Windows Mail or Wikmail.
