Knowledge of using Filters is necessary (or learn how to get started with my ABC Tutorials)

This tutorial is my own creation, any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental.

Program shortcuts will be given in parentheses



Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other versions)
Free 30 day trial from Corel, available here



Image

Tube or mist of choice
(I misted an image with Mask 064)



Filters

Fantastic Machines > Paint Engine****, available here
FM Tile Tools > Blend Emboss, available here



Performance Notes

This tutorial is in 2 parts:
- Preparation
- Background



The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

****We are using the preset "pastel sponge" for this tutorial.
The tutorial lists the exact Settings.
You can get many PaintEngine Presets here.
Simply unzip the file and place into:
Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Windows.
Attention: If you already have a file called "fmachine.ini" in C:\windows, you will lose those presets.
You can open fmachine.ini in Notepad and manually add more presets.
99 presets are possible.

Preparation

1) Download and install Filter if necessary
(If you install filters you need to restart PSP afterwards)

2) File > Open
Open image of choice

3) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

4) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click in image to choose a light Foreground color
(I chose #dfdbde)
Right click in image to choose a medium Background color

5) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Width = No greater than 400 Pixels
Height = No greater than 400 Pixels

6) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00
Strength = 47, Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

7) Edit > Copy

8) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D) Minimize one copy

Background

9) Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Not Checked
Width = 2000 (or width of choice)
Height = Height of image + 30 Pixels
Placement = Left Middle Arrow

10) Layers > New Raster Layer

11) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

12) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Sample merged = Checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

13) Right click to flood fill new Layer with Background color****A

14) Selections > Select All

15) Edit > Paste Into Selection****B

****A + ****B:
I used my image without mask applied instead of the mist

16) Selections > Select None

17) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Default

18) Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Settings:
Radius = 21.50

19) Effects > Plugins > Fantastic Machines > PaintEngine
Settings: pastel sponge
Push Intensity = 1.08
Lighten = .9, Bias = .00
Pull Intensity = .14
Lighten = -.1 (Minus)
Bias = .00, Amount = 1.18
Wrap Edges = NOT checked
Type = Downhill
Input & Line = Not checked
Length = 9, Radiate = 1.00
Motion Angle = -127 Minus), Curl = 2
Operation Angle = -36 (Minus), Curl = 1
Direction Angle R = Checked

Left click to flood fill new Layer with Foreground color

22) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity to 30

23) Layers > Merge > Merge Down

24) Effects > Plugins > Fantastic Machines > PaintEngine

25) Adjust > Softness > Soft Focus
Settings:
Softness (%) = 17
Edge Importance (%) = 79
Include Scattered Light = NOT Checked
Amount (%) = 28
Halo Size (%) = 67
Halo Visibility (%) = 59

26) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

27) Effects > Plugins > FM Tile Tools > Blend Emboss
Settings:
Horiz. Offset = -1.000
Vert. Offset = -1.000
Intensity = .250
Gray Level = 64
Red Blend = 0.938
Green Blend = 0.938
Blue Blend = 0.938
Edge Wrap = NOT Checked

28) Edit > Repeat Blend Emboss

29) Layers > New Raster Layer

30) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill new Layer with Foreground color

31) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity to 57
(Or a setting of your liking)

32) Layers Palette
Activate Top Layer (image)

33) Move Tool (M)
Move image to position of your liking
(If necessary)

34) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 4
Opacity = 62, Blur = 6.2
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Not Checked
If using a mist, you might prefer not to use a Drop Shadow

35) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = - 2 (Minus)
Opacity = 42, Blur = 6.2
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Not Checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

36) Layers > New Raster Layer

37) Add Watermark(s)

38) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set compression value to = 20 - 30
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 1x1 1x1 1x1 (None)
Save Exif data = Not checked


You are done!
Now you can assemble the stationery in LC or OE/Windows Mail or Wikmail.
