This tutorial is my own creation; any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental

I was inspired to write this tutorial after going wrong with the "Back Coluna" tutorial.
Marynez has kindly encouraged me to write this tutorial



Needed

Paint Shop Pro 9 (Tutorial should also work with other PSP versions, some adjustments might be necessary)
Free 30-day PSP trial from Corel, available here
Letter Creator from Incredimail (optional), available here

Graphic
Tube of choice, height greater than width

PSP Preset
PSP preset "Emboss_3"
(If you do not have the Preset, follow these instructions to download and install my collection of PSP presets)

Performance Notes
The settings for different Tools will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

The tutorial is in 4 parts:
- Preparation
- Pattern
- Background
- Assembling stationery in LC

Don't forget to save your work often



Preparation

1) File > Open
Open tube of choice

2) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

3) Image > Resize
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resolution = 72.000
Resample using = Bicubic
Height = 360 Pixels
Width will adjust itself
Resize all layers = Checked

4) Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen
(if necessary)

5) Edit > Copy

6) Dropper Tool (E)
Choose a Foreground (left click) and a Background (right click) color
The important thing is that the two colors should compliment each other. The Foreground color will be your dominant color for the rest of the tutorial

7) Materials Palette
Click on Background Color,
Click on Gradient Tab and choose Foreground-background
Settings:
Angle = 45
Repeats = 3
Invert = Checked
Linear
Texture = Not checked



Pattern

8) File > New (Ctrl + N)
Settings:
Width = 200 Pixels
Height = 200 Pixels
Resolution = 72.000
Raster Background = Checked
Color depth = 16 Million Colors (24 bit)
Transparent = Checked

9) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Sample merged = Checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

10) Flood fill with gradient

11) Effects > Artistic Effects > Enamel
Settings:
Blur = 36, Detail = 42
Density = 55, Angle = 242
Color = Your Foreground Color

12) Effects > Distortion Effects > Polar Coordinates
Settings:
Rectangular to Polar = Checked
Transparent = Checked

13) Effects > Image Effects > Offset
Settings:
Horizontal = 44
Vertical = 52
Custom = Checked
Repeat = Checked

14) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Corner = Checked
Bidirectional = Checked
Horizontal offset (%) = 0
Vertical offset (%) = 0
Transition (%) = 100
Linear = Checked

15) Layers > Duplicate

16) Image > Flip

17) Image > Mirror

18) Layers Palette
Reduce Opacity to 56

20) Effects > User Defined Filter
Settings:
Emboss_3 (preset)

21) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

22) Layers > New Raster Layer

23) Flood Fill Tool
Flood fill new layer with your Foreground color

24) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity to 48

25) Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten)

26) Materials Palette
Click on Background Color
Click on Pattern Tab and choose newly created pattern
Settings:
Angle = 0
Scale = 100
Texture = Not checked



Background

27) File > New
Settings:
Width = 1024 Pixels***
Height = 400 Pixels
*** or width of your computer resolution

28) Flood Fill Tool
Flood fill with pattern

29) Materials Palette
Change Foreground Color to white

30) Layers > New Raster Layer

31) Flood Fill Tool
Flood fill new layer with white

32) Layers Palette
Reduce Opacity to 52
(or a setting of your liking to make the background more text friendly)

33) Edit > Paste > Paste as New Layer

34) Move Tool (M)
Move tube to the left of the background tile

35) (Optional)
Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel #2, Width = 15
Smoothness = 7, Depth = 5
Ambience = 7, Shininess = 12
Color = White, Angle = 315
Intensity = 32, Elevation = 50

36) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Horizontal & Vertical = 3
Opacity = 40, Blur = 4.50
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Not checked
(or a setting of your liking)

37) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Horizontal & Vertical = - 1 (Minus)
Opacity = 30, Blur = 4.50
(or a setting of your liking)

38) Layers > New Raster Layer

39) Add Watermark(s)
If you have a watermark tube, see Step #39a)
If not, follow Step #39b)

39a) Place your tube and continue with Step #41

39b) Text Tool (T)
Create as Vector
Write your watermark

40) Layers > Convert to Raster Layer

41) Move Tool (M)
Move watermark to where you want it

42) If necessary, reduce opacity of watermark layer

43) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Compression = 20
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 1x1 1x1 1x1 (None)
Save Exit data = Not checked



Letter Creator

44) Open Letter Creator

45) Body; Image, look for the background JPEG file
Click on "Tile"
Choose Font and Font Size
Choose Text Color
Choose Link Color
Margins: Top = 10, Left = to the right of your tube, Right = 10

46) Footer; Your name
Reference and link (if possible) to tube
Name of tutorial "Erratum SB" and link to this page
Date you created this stat

47) Finish;
Choose Letter Name and Collection Name
Save Project
Add to Incredimail
