Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other versions)
Free 30 day trial from Corel, available here



Image

Tube or mist of choice
Width not greater than height



Filters

Artistic, available here
dsb flux, available here
Fantastic Machines > Paint Engine, available here
Impressionist Filter, available here



Performance Notes

This tutorial is in 3 parts:
- Preparation
- Pattern
- Background

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Download and install filters if necessary
(If you install filters you need to restart PSP afterwards)

2) File > Open
Open image of choice

3) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

4) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Height = Not more than 375 Pixels
Width = Not more than 375 Pixels
(The end result will have a height of 400 pixels)

5) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 2.00, Strength = 10
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Not checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

6) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click in image to choose a light Foreground color
(I chose #f5edd6)
Right click in image to choose a dark Background Color
(I chose #493717)

7) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Minimize one copy

8) Edit > Copy



Pattern

9) File > New
Settings:
Width = 400 Pixels
Height = 400
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels/inch
Raster Background = Checked
Transparent = Checked

10) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

11) Left click to flood fill with Foreground Color

12) Selections > Select All

13) Edit > Paste Into Selection

14) Selections > Select None

15) Adjust > Softness > Soft Focus
Settings: (Default)
Softness (%) = 50
Edge importance (%) = 50
Include scattered light = Checked
Amount (%) = 50
Halo size (%) = 50
Halo visibility (%) = 50

16) Edit > Repeat Soft Focus

17) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Default

18) Effects > Plugins > Artistic > Rough Pastels
Settings:
Stroke Length = 21, Stroke Detail = 7
Texture = Canvas
Scaling = 133 %, Relief = 10
Light Direction = Bottom
Invert = Not checked

26) Minimize pattern
Do NOT close

This will be called Pattern for the rest of the tutorial



Background

27) Activate the other image

28) Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Not Checked
Width = 2000 Pixels (or width of choice)
Height = 400
Placement = Left Middle Arrow
Left = 10

29) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical = 2, Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 65, Blur = 5.00
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Not checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

30) Layers > New Raster Layer

31) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

32) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new Layer with Pattern

33) Effects > Edge Effects > Enhance

34) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

35) Layers > New Raster Layer

36) Materials Palette
Change Background back to Color

37) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill with Background Color

38) Layers Palette
Change Blend Mode to Multiply

39) Layers > New Raster Layer

40) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill with Foreground Color

41) Layers Palette
Change Blend Mode to Color (L)
(Or a Blend Mode of your liking)

42) Layers > New Raster Layer

43) Add Watermark(s)

44) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set Compression value to = 20
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 1x1 1x1 1x1 (None)
Save Exif data = Not checked


You are done!
Now you can assemble the stationery in LC or OE/Windows Mail or Wikmail.
