This tutorial is my own creation; any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental

Program shortcuts will be given in parentheses



Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other versions)
Free 30 day trial from Corel, available here



Image

Tube or mist of choice
Width not greater than height



Filters

Fantastic Machines > Paint Engine, available here
Simple Filters, available here



Texture

linenPOP, available here



Performance Notes

This tutorial is in 3 parts:
- Preparation
- Pattern
- Background

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Install filters if necessary
(If you install filters you need to restart PSP afterwards)

2) Download the Texture and save to your Texture Folder

3) File > Open
Open image of choice

4) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

5) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Height = 400 Pixels
Width = will self adjust

6) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 27.00, Strength = 10
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Checked
(or a setting of your liking)

7) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click to choose a light Foreground color
(I chose #e7dde5)
and a medium to dark Background color

(I chose #233b0b)

8) Window > Duplicate
Minimize copy



Pattern

9) Image > Resize
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Not checked
Height = 425 Pixels
Width = 425

10) Layers > New Raster Layer

11) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

12) Right click to flood fill with Background Color

13) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

14) Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

15) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Default

16) Effects > Reflection Effects > Pattern
Settings:
Horizontal offset (%) = 65
Vertical offset (%) = -2 (Minus)
Rotation angle = 87
Scale factor = 44
Number of columns = 7
Number of rows = 7
Horizontal shift = -46 (Minus)
Vertical shift = -52 (Minus)

Attention:
If instead of a pattern, you have almost only one color, play with the Horizontal offset and Vertical offset settings until you have something of your liking

17) Effects > Plugins > Simple > 4 Way Average

18) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Centre Tile

19) Effects > Plugins > Fantastic Machines > PaintEngine
Settings:
Push Intensity = .56, Lighten = .0
Bias = -.23 (Minus)
Pull Intensity = .54
Lighten = 2.2, Bias = .00
Amount = 1.14
Wrap Edges = Not checked
Type = Uphill
Input = Not Checked, Line = Not checked
Length = 26, Radiate = 1.00
Motion Angle = -145 (Minus)
Curl = -4 (Minus)
Operation Angle = -67 (Minus)
Curl = 2, Direction Channel = R

Settings:
Degrees = 200

21) Effects > Texture Effects > Texture
Settings:
Texture = linenPOP
Size = 100%, Smoothness = 0
Depth = 2, Ambience = 0
Shininess = 0
Color = White
Angle = 315, Intensity = 50
Elevation = 30

22) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Default

This will be called Pattern for the rest of the tutorial

23) Minimize Pattern
Do NOT close

24) Materials Palette
Change Background to Pattern
Settings:
Pattern: Pattern you just created
Angle = 0
Scale = 100
Texture = Not checked



Background

25) Activate your minimized copy
Image > Canvas Size
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Not Checked
Width = 2000 (or width of choice)
Height = 425
Placement = Left Middle Arrow
Left = 10

26) Layers > New Raster Layer

27) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

28) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill with Pattern

29) Layers > New Raster Layer

30) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill new layer with Foreground Color

31) Layers > Duplicate

32) Layers Palette
Activate 'Raster 3' Layer
Change Blend Mode to Soft Light

Depending whether your image is on Layer "Raster 1" or "Merged", your Layers might be numbered differently.

33) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity of 'Copy of Raster 3' to 71
(or a setting of your liking)

Activate bottom (Pattern) Layer
Adjust > Brightness and Contrast > Brightness/Contrast
Settings:
Brightness = 10, Contrast = 10

35) Layers Palette
Activate Tube/misted image layer (Raster 1)

36) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical = 2, Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 40, Blur = 25.00
Color = Black or darker shade of medium color
Shadow on new layer = Not checked
(Or a setting of your liking)
If you have used a mist, you might prefer not to use a Drop Shadow

37) Layers > New Raster Layer

38) Add Watermark(s)

39) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set Compression value to = 20
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 1x1 1x1 1x1 (None)
Save Exif data = Not checked

You are done!
Now you can assemble the stationery in LC or OE/Windows Mail or Wikmail.
