Performance Notes

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Download the Texture and save to your Texture folder

2) Start > Documents

3) Open your Scrolling Letters Folder

4) Click "New folder"
Name = Expanding Letter 2
Save all the images and files you will create to this folder

5) In PSP:
File > Open
Open image of choice

6) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

7) Edit > Copy

8) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click to choose a light Foreground color
(I chose #f8ead0)
Right click to choose a dark Background color
(I chose #602213)

9) Window > Duplicate
Minimize one copy



Background

10) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Not checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Width = 250 Pixels
Height = 250

11) Layers > New Raster Layer

12) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

13) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

14) Right click to flood fill new layer with Background color

15) Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

16) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Default

17) Effects > Plugins > Simple > 4 Way Average

18) Effects > Art Media Effects > Brushstrokes
Settings:
Softness = 2
Bristles = 13, Width = 10
Opacity = 31
Length = 6, Density = 10
Angle = 131
Color = Foreground Color

20) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set compression value to = 20
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 1x1 1x1 1x1 (None)
Save Exif data = Not checked

Background for Footer

21) File > New
Settings:
Width = 10 Pixels
Height = 10

22) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill new layer with Foreground color

23) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

24) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity to your liking
The lower the opacity, the more of your background will shine through

25) File > Export > PNG Organizer
Settings:
As in Lesson 4

File name = bgfooter.png



Tile

26) File > New
Settings:
Width = 900 Pixels
Height = 400
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Raster Background = Checked
Transparent = Checked

27) Selection Tool (S) > Custom selection

28) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill selection with Foreground Color

30) Selections > Modify > Select Selection Borders

Both sides = Checked
Anti-alias = Checked

31) Layers > New Raster Layer

32) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill with Background color

33) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel = #2, Width = 8
Smoothness = 40, Depth = 4
Ambience = 0, Shininess = 30
Color = Foreground Color
Angle = 315
Intensity = 50, Elevation = 30

Turn off visibility of bottom layer

35) Magic Wand Tool
Settings:
Mode = Replace
Match mode = RGB Value
Tolerance = 0
Use all layers = Not checked
Contiguous = Checked
Feather = 0
Anti-alias = Checked
Outside

36) Select inside of frame

37) Selections > Modify > Expand
Settings:
Number of pixels = 2

38) Layers > New Raster Layer

39) Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 40, Blur = 14.00
Color = Black
Fill interior with color = Not checked

40) Selections > Select None

41) Layers Palette
Turn on visibility of Bottom Layer

42) Activate minimized copy of Tube

43) Edit > Copy

44) Activate Tile
Edit > Paste As New Layer

45) Layers > Arrange > Bring to Top

46) Image > Resize
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Not checked
Width = 90 %
Height = 90

47) Edit > Repeat Resize
Until Tube fits into textbox with space left for text

48) Move Tool (M)
Move Tube to position of liking

49) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 1
Opacity = 75, Blur = 5.00

Optional:

a) Move Tube to the bottom left of frame

b) Layers > Duplicate

c) Image > Mirror

d) Image > Resize
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Not checked
Width = 75 %
Height = 75

e) Move Tool
Move duplicated Tube to position of liking

50) Layers > New Raster Layer

51) Add © of Artist and any other info according to artist TOU

52) Layers > New Raster Layer

53) Add your watermark

54) File > Save As
Settings:
Save as type = .PSPIMAGE
Save in layers, so that you can make changes later if necessary



Slicing

55) Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

56) Follow Instructions in Lesson 4 on how to find the inside of your Textbox on the Left, Top, Right and Bottom and write down

57) Make your selections and paste as new images
BUT
export the images with the PNG Optimizer to keep them transparent

File > Export > PNG Organizer
Settings:
As in Lesson 4

Name your images top.png, middle.png and bottom.png



Change Coding

58) Make your LC file according to instructions in Lesson 5

59) Extract the files according to instructions in Lesson 5

60) Make changes to the Flavor.htm code according to instructions in Lesson 3 in the Footer area
and Lesson 6 to add the slices, determine the padding and change text background color, text and link colors.



Make new .imf letter

61) Make new .imf file according to instructions in Lesson 6
