Performance Notes
This tutorial is in 6 parts:

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Start > Documents

2) Open your Scrolling Letters Folder

3) Make a folder for your new letter
Save all the images and files you will create to this folder

4) In PSP:
File > Open
Open image of choice

5) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

6) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click to choose a light Foreground color
(I chose #fdf8e4)
Right click to choose a dark Background color
(I chose #581a1a)

7) Window > Duplicate
Minimize one copy

8) Edit > Copy



Background

9) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Not checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Width = 150 Pixels
Height = 150

10) Layers > New Raster Layer

11) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

12) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

13) Left click to flood fill new layer with Foreground color

14) Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

15) Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Settings:
Radius = 3.00

16) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Default

17) Effects > Reflection Effects > Kaleidoscope
Settings:
Horizontal offset (%) = -51 (Minus)
Vertical offset (%) = 40
Rotation angle = 131
Scale factor = 66
Number of petals = 10
Number of orbits = 1
Radial suction = 5
Reflect = Checked

18) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

19) Effects > Edge Effects > Enhance

20) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

21) Layers > New Raster Layer

22) Flood Fill Tool Left click to flood fill new layer with Foreground color

23) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity of layer to 70
(or a setting of your liking)

24) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set compression value to = 20
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 1x1 1x1 1x1 (None)
Save Exif data = Not checked
File name = bgLC



Tile

25) File > New
Settings:
Width = 900 Pixels
Height = 600
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Raster Background = Checked
Transparent = Checked

26) Edit > Paste As New Layer

27) Image > Resize (if necessary)
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Not checked
Width = 90 %
Height = 90

28) Edit > Repeat Resize
(if necessary)
Until you are happy with size

29) Move Tool (M)
Move Tube to bottom of tile

30) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 3
Opacity = 75, Blur = 15.00

31) Text Tool (T)
Settings:
Font of choice (I chose GE Misty Script)
Size = 140
Units = Pixels
Font style = Bold
Alignment = Center
Direction = Horizontal and Down
Anti-alias = Sharp
Stroke width = 2.0
Create as Vector
Leading = 0.000
Auto-kern = Checked
Kerning = 10

32) Move Text to Top of tile

33) Objects > Align > Horz. Center in Canvas

34) Layers > Convert to Raster Layer

35) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel = #2, Width = 8
Smoothness = 40, Depth = 4
Ambience = 0, Shininess = 30
Color = White
Angle = 315
Intensity = 50, Elevation = 30
Move Tool
Move Text to Vertical

36) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

37) Layers > New Raster Layer

38) Add © of Artist and any other info according to artist TOU

39) Layers > New Raster Layer

40) Add your watermark

41) File > Save As
Settings:
Save as type = .PSPIMAGE
Save in layers, so that you can make changes later if necessary



Slicing

42) Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

43) Follow Instructions in Lesson 4 on how to find the inside of your Textbox Top and Bottom and write down

44) Make your selections and paste as new images
BUT
export the images with the PNG Optimizer to keep them transparent.

File > Export > PNG Organizer
Settings:
As in Lesson 4

Name your images top.png, middle.png and bottom.png



Change Coding

45) Make your LC file according to instructions in Lesson 5

46) Extract the files according to instructions in Lesson 5

47) Make changes to the Flavor.htm code according to instructions in Lesson 3 in the Footer area
and Lesson 6 to add the slices, change text background color, text and link colors. The padding on these letters is 10 for both left and right.



Make new .imf letter

48) Make new .imf file according to instructions in Lesson 6
