Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other versions)
Free 30 day trial from Corel, available here

This will be known as "Gold Pattern" for the rest of the tutorial

Performance Notes

This tutorial is in 4 parts:
- Preparation
- Pattern
- Frame
- Background

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Download and install Filters if necessary
(If you install filters you need to restart PSP afterwards)

2) Download the Gold Pattern and save to your Pattern Folder

3) File > Open
Open image of choice

4) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

5) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click in image to choose a light Foreground color
(I chose #e4dadf)
Right click in image to choose a dark Background color
(I chose #3a260d)

6) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Width = No greater than 450 Pixels
Height = No greater than 400 Pixels

7) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00
Strength = 47, Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

8) Materials Palette
Change Foreground to Pattern
Settings:
LB_pattern2.jpg
Angle = 0, Scale = 50
Texture = Not checked

9) Window > Duplicate
Minimize one copy



Pattern

10) Image > Resize
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Not checked
Width = 250 Pixels
Height = 250

11) Effects > Distortion Effects > Twirl
Settings:
Degrees = 720

12) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Default

13) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Zoom Out and Flip

14) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Pizza Slice Mirror

15) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Centre Tile

16) Effects > Plugins > dsb flux > Mosaic Ripple
Settings:
Mosaic = 14, Pull = 315

17) Effects > Plugins > gittes plugins > gittes supertile
Settings:
Horizontal (%) = 23
Vertical (%) = 0

18) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Centre Tile

19) Minimize pattern
Do NOT close

This will be called Border Pattern for the rest of the tutorial

20) Materials Palette Change Background to Pattern

Frame

21) Maximize the other image copy

22) Layers > New Raster Layer

23) Selections > Select All

24) Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 60, Blur = 16.00
Color = Black
Fill interior with color = Not checked

25) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Symmetric = Checked
Size in pixels = 1
Color = Black

26) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 2
Color = Foreground Color

27) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 3
Color = Background Color

28) Image > Add Borders

32) Left click to flood fill new border with Gold Pattern

Background

59) On Frame:
Selection Tool (S) > Custom Selection

65) Layers > New Raster Layer

66) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

67) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new Layer with Border Pattern

68) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

69) Materials Palette
Change Gold Pattern to (light) Foreground Color
AND
Change Border Pattern to Color and white

Optional:

It totally depends on your personal preference, your pattern and colors chosen whether the "optional steps" are appropriate or not.
Just try out what you like best and don't forget to play with opacity levels of all the added colored layers.

70) Layers > New Raster Layer

71) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new layer with white

72) Layers Palette
Change Blend Mode to "Soft Light"

73) Layers > New Raster Layer

74) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new layer with white

Reduce opacity of layer to 82
