The Simple Tag Tutorial

I used the awesome artwork of The Paper Shelter.
This is a PTU (Pay to Use) tube and can be purchased from The Paper Shelter.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Knowledge of Filters necessary
(or learn how to get started with my ABC Tutorials)

This tutorial is my own creation, any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental

Program shortcuts will be given in parentheses



Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other PSP versions, some adjustments might be necessary)
Free 30 day trial from Corel, available here

Eye Candy 4000 > Gradient Glow

Font

Font of Choice – I used Viva La Vida
(a Kimberly Geswein Font - I have fallen in love with the KG fonts :), they are free for personal use)



Performance Notes

This tutorial is in 3 parts:
- Preparation
- Pattern
- Tag

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Download and install filter - if necessary
(If you install filters you need to restart PSP afterwards)

2) Download LB_texture07 and place into your Texture Folder

3) File > Open
Open tube of choice

4) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

5) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click in image to choose a light color as Foreground color
(I chose #fcf0e0)
Right click to choose a medium to dark Background color
(I chose #c95041)

6) Edit > Copy



Pattern

7) File > New
Settings:
Width = 250 Pixels
Height = 250 Pixels
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels/inch
Raster Background = Checked
Color depth = RGB / 8 bits channel
Transparent = Checked

8) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

9) Left click to flood fill with Foreground color

10) Selections > Select All

11) Edit > Paste Into Selection

12) Selections > Select None

13) Effects > Reflection Effects > Feedback
Settings:
Opacity = 47, Intensity = 83
Horizontal offset (%) = 87
Vertical offset (%) = -96 (minus)
Elliptical = Not checked

14) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Pizza Slice Mirror

15) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Centre Tile

16) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Zoom Out and Flip

17) Effects > Plugins > Simple > 4 Way Average

18) Layers > New Raster Layer

19) Materials Palette
Settings:
Color = Foreground color
Texture = Checked
Texture = LB_texture07
Angle = 0, Scale = 100

20) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity to 62

21) Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

22) Effects > Plugins > Simple > Centre Tile

This will be called Pattern for the rest of the tutorial

23) Minimize Pattern
Do NOT close



Tag

24) File > New
Settings:
Width = 600 Pixels
Height = 250 Pixels

25) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new Layer with Background color

26) Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise
Settings:
Uniform = 25
Monochrome = Checked

27) Materials Palette
Settings:
Color = Foreground color
Texture = Not checked
And
Change Background color to Pattern
Settings:
Your "Pattern"
Angle = 0, Scale = 50

28) Layers > New Raster Layer

29) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new Layer with Pattern

30) Layers > New Raster Layer

31) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill new Layer with Foreground color

32) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity to 60
(Or a setting of your liking)

33) Layers > Merge > Merge Down

34) Effects > Image Effect > Page Curl
Settings:
Color = Foreground color
Radius (%) = 40
Corner = Curl upper right corner
Width (%) = 21
Height (%) = 47
Edge mode = Transparent

35) Edit > Paste as New Layer
(the tube)

36) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Not checked
Resize by % until you are happy with size of tube on tag

37) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00, Strength = 47
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

38) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 70, Blur = 12.00
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Not checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

39) Move Tool (M)
Move tube to either left or right

40) Materials Palette
Settings:
Change Foreground color to Black
And
Change Background to (Background) color

41) Layers > New Raster Layer

42) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new Layer with Background color

43) Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise

44) Selections > Select All

45) Selections > Modify > Contract
Settings:
Number of Pixels = 3

46) Edit > Clear

47) Selections > Select All

48) Layers > New Raster Layer

49) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill new Layer with Foreground color (black)

50) Selections > Modify > Contract
Settings:
Number of Pixels = 1

51) Edit > Clear

52) Selections > None

53) Layers > New Raster Layer

54) Add your artist's copyrights

55) Text Tool (T)
Settings:
Font = Viva La Vida (or Font of choice)
Size = 44 Points (or what suits your Font and Text)
Alignment = Center
Direction = Horizontal and Down
Anti-alias = Sharp
Stroke width = .6
Create as Vector
Auto kern = Checked
Kerning = 0 (or what suits your Font and Text)

56) Type Text of choice and click on Apply

57) Layers > Convert to Raster Layer

58) Move Tool
Move text to place of choice

59) Effects > Plugins > Eye Candy 4000 > Gradient Glow
Settings:
Basic:
Glow width (pixels) = 4.00
Soft Corners (%) = 25
Overall Opacity (%) = 100
Draw Only Outside Selection = Checked
Color:
Color of choice

If you do not have Eye Candy 4000 Use a Drop Shadow of choice

60) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set Compression value to = 10
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 2x2 1x1 1x1
Save Exif data = Not checked
