Program shortcuts will be given in parentheses



Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other versions)
Free 30 day trial from Corel, available here

Eye Candy 4000 > Gradient Glow

Font of Choice – I used Cinnamon Medium (PTU)



Performance Notes

This tutorial is in 2 parts:
- Preparation
- Tag

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Download swatch.pspimage and open in PSP

2) File > Open
Open image of choice

3) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

4) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click in image to choose a very dark Foreground color
This will be for the borders
(I chose #271d13)

5) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

6) Activate swatch.pspimage
Selections > Load/Save Selection > Load Selection from Alpha Channel
Settings:
Load from document = swatch.pspimage
Selection #1
Replace selection = Checked
Load

7) Left click to flood fill with Foreground color

8) Selections > Load/Save Selection > Load Selection from Alpha Channel
Settings:
Selection #2

9) Choose light contrasting color as Foreground color and flood fill selection

10) Selections > Load/Save Selection > Load Selection from Alpha Channel
Settings:
Selection #3

11) Choose medium contrasting color as Background color and flood fill selection

12) Selections > Select None

13) Materials Palette
Change Foreground color to Gradient
Settings:
Gradient = Foreground-background
Angle = 0, Repeats = 0
Invert = Not checked
Style = Sunburst
Center Point:
Horizontal & Vertical = 50
Link center and focal points = Checked



Tag

14) File > New
Settings:
Width = 600 Pixels
Height = 250 Pixels
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels/inch
Raster Background = Checked
Color depth = RGB / 8 bits channel
Transparent = Checked

15) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill with gradient

16) Layers > Duplicate

17) Effects > Texture Effects > Fine Leather
Settings:
Color = Light color of choice
Angle = 126
Blur = 73
Transparency = 253
Number of furrows = 812
Length of furrows = 6

18) Layers Palette
Change Blend mode to Luminance (Legacy)

19) Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

20) Layers > New Raster Layer

21) Selection Tool (S) > Custom selection

Top = 110
Left = 0, Right = 600
Bottom = 175

22) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill with Gradient

23) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity to 73
(Or a Setting of your liking)

24) Activate your swatch.pspimage
Dropper Tool
Left click on 1st (dark) Color

25) Materials Palette
Change Gradient to Foreground color

26) Activate Tag
Layers > New Raster Layer

27) Selections > Modify > Select Selection Borders
Settings:
Both sides = Checked
Anti-alias = Checked
Border width = 3

28) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill with Foreground color

29) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings: (Default)
Bevel #1
Width = 8
Smoothness = 0
Depth = 20
Ambience = 0
Shininess = 0
Color = White
Angle = 315
Intensity = 50
Elevation = 30

30) Selections > Select None

31) Pull right side of image slightly to the right to make some extra space

32) Pick Tool (K)
Pull left and right side of border out of your working image

33) Layers > New Raster Layer

34) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill with Foreground color

35) Selections > Select All

36) Selections > Modify > Contract
Settings:
Number of Pixels = 6

37) Edit > Clear

38) Selections > Invert

39) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel

40) Selections > Select None

41) Activate your tube
Edit > Copy

42) Activate your tag
Edit > Paste As New Layer

43) Layers > Arrange > Move Down

44) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Not checked
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Width = 80%
Height = 80%
(If necessary)

45) Edit > Repeat
If necessary - as many times as needed until most or all of the tube is visible

46) Move Tool (M)
Move tube to position of your liking

47) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00, Strength = 47
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

48) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Horizontal & Vertical = 0
Opacity = 70, Blur = 12.00
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Not checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

49) Layers > New Raster Layer

50) Add your artists copyrights

51) Text Tool (T)
Settings:
Font = Font of choice
Size = 42 Points (or what suits your Font and Text)
Alignment = Center
Direction = Horizontal and Down
Anti-alias = Sharp
Stroke width = 1.2
Create as Vector
Auto kern = Checked
Kerning = 0 (or what suits your Font and Text)

52) Type Text of choice and click on Apply

53) Layers > Convert to Raster Layer

54) Move Tool
Move text to place of choice

55) Effects > Plugins > Eye Candy 4000 > Gradient Glow
Settings:
Basic:
Glow width (pixels) = 5.00
Soft Corners (%) = 3
Overall Opacity (%) = 50
Draw Only Outside Selection = Checked
Color:
Light color of choice

If you do not have Eye Candy 4000
Use a Drop Shadow of choice

56) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set Compression value to = 10
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 2x2 1x1 1x1
Save Exif data = Not checked
