I have used one of my own photographs for this tutorial


Skill Level: Beginner using PSP

This tutorial is my own creation, any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental

Program shortcuts will be given in parentheses



Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other PSP versions, some adjustments might be necessary)
Free 30 day PSP trial from Corel, available here

This will be known as "Pattern" for the rest of the tutorial

Performance Notes
This tutorial is in 3 parts:
- Preparation
- Frame
- Background

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Don't forget to save your work often

Preparation

1) Download the zip file, extract the files and save Texture to your Texture folder, Pattern to your Pattern folder and Image to a folder you can find easily
(I make a folder for each tutorial I do and keep all my PSP work together)

2) File > Open

3) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

4) File > Open
Image of choice

5) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

6) Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Checked
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels / Inch
Width = No greater than 450 Pixels
Height = No greater than 370

7) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 2.00, Strength = 10
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Not checked
(or a setting of your liking)

8) Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten)
(if necessary)

9) Materials Palette
Settings:
Background Color = HTML #817976
(or medium color of choice)
Texture = Not checked
Write down your H + S values for later use

Angle = 0, Scale = 100

11) File > Open

13) Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize

14) Minimize pattern

Change Background to Pattern
Settings:
Pattern = LB_patternWinterdream
(original OR colorized version OR Pattern of choice)
Angle = 0, Scale = 100
Texture = Not checked



Frame

16) Image to be framed:
Selections > Select All

17) Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:
Vertical & Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 75, Blur = 25.00
Color = Black
Fill interior with color = Not checked

18) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Symmetric = Checked
Size in pixels = 1
Color = #4f4a49
(or color of choice - ideally darker shade of your medium color -
write down HTML # of choice)

19) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 10
Color = Background Color

20) Magic Wand Tool
Settings:
Mode = Replace
Match mode = RGB Value
Tolerance = 0
Use all layers = Not checked
Contiguous = Checked
Feather = 0
Anti-alias = Checked
Outside

21) Left click on new border to select

22) Layers > New Raster Layer

23) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

24) Right click to flood fill selected border with Pattern

25) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity of pattern layer to 49
(or a setting of your liking -
write down number)

26) Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

27) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:
Bevel = #2, Width = 20
Smoothness = 10, Depth = 6
Ambience = 3, Shininess = 10
Color = White, Angle = 315
Intensity = 32, Elevation = 50

28) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 1
Color = #4f4a49 (or the color you used before)

29) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 40
Color = Background Color

30) Magic Wand Tool
Select new Border

31) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill selected border with Foreground Color - Texture

32) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel

33) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 1
Color = #4f4a49 (or the color you used before)

34) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 10
Color = Background Color

35) Magic Wand Tool
Select new Border

36) Layers > New Raster Layer

37) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Right click to flood fill selected border with Pattern

38) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity of pattern layer to 49
OR
the number you wrote down in Step #25

39) Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

40) Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel

41) Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Size in pixels = 1
Color = #4f4a49 (or the color you used before)

42) Selections > Select None

43) Raster > New Raster Layer

44) Add Watermark(s)

45) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set compression value to = 20 - 30
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 1x1 1x1 1x1 (None)
Save Exif data = Not checked

Do NOT Close Frame



Background

46) Selection Tool (S) > Custom Selection

47) Edit > Copy Merged

48) Edit > Paste As New Image

Placement = Left Middle Arrow

50) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Mirror = Checked
Vertical = Checked
Vertical offset (%) = 0
Width (%) = 50
Transition (%) = 50

51) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Vertical = 0, Horizontal = 5
Opacity = 50, Blur = 15.00
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Checked

52) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Edge = Checked
Vertical = Checked
Width (%) = 50
Transition (%) = 50

53) Layers > New Raster Layer

54) Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

55) Materials Palette
Change Background to Color

56) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new layer with Background Color

57) Layers > New Raster Layer

58) Materials Palette
Foreground Color
Settings:
Scale = 50 (Texture)

59) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill new layer with Foreground Color - Texture

60) Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling
Settings:
Mirror = Checked
Vertical = Checked
Vertical offset (%) = 0
Width (%) = 50
Transition (%) = 50

61) Layers > New Raster Layer

62) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new layer with Background Color

OR
Left click to flood fill new layer with Foreground Color WITHOUT Texture

63) Layers Palette
Reduce opacity of layer to 79
(or a setting of your liking)

64) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer


You are done!
Now you can assemble the stationery in LC or OE/Windows Mail.
