Malika Tag Tutorial

I used the awesome artwork of Adrian Chesterman.
I am allowed to use his art for free as group permission.
I belong to a group which has his permission to use his art - while being a member of that group.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginners
No outside Filters/Plugins used

This tutorial is my own creation; any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental

Program shortcuts will be given in parentheses



Needed

Paint Shop Pro - I used X2
(Tutorial will work with other versions)
Free 30 day trial from Corel, available here

Performance Notes

This tutorial is in 2 parts:
- Preparation
- Tag

The settings for different Tools and Effects will stay the same throughout the tutorial, unless new setting instructions are given

Preparation

1) Download LB_texture02 and place into your Texture Folder

2) File > Open
Open image of choice

3) Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close original

4) Dropper Tool (E)
Left click to choose a light Foreground color
(I chose #ede797)
Right click to choose the color Black

5) Edit > Copy
Minimize



Tag

6) File > New
Settings:
Width = 600 Pixels
Height = 250 Pixels
Resolution = 72.000 Pixels/inch
Raster Background = Checked
Color depth = RGB / 8 bits channel
Transparent = Checked

7) Flood Fill Tool (F)
Settings:
Match mode = None
Use all layers = Not checked
Blend mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

8) Left click to flood fill with Foreground color

9) Selections > Select All

10) Edit > Paste Into Selection

11) Selections > Select None

12) Adjust > Blur > Radial Blur
Settings:
Twirl = Checked
Strength (%) = 100
Twirl degrees = 33
Elliptical = Checked
Horizontal offset (%) = 5
Vertical offset (%) = 20
Protect center (%) = 0

13) Effects > Edge Effects > Enhance More

14) Effects > Geometric Effects > Pentagon
Settings:
Repeat = Checked

15) Effects > Distortion Effects > Lens Distortion
Settings:
Horizontal (%) = 0
Vertical (%) = 0
Distortion type = Fisheye (Spherical)
Field of view = 100
Edge mode = Repeat

16) Effects > Texture Effects > Sandstone
Settings:
Blur = 1
Detail = 21
Luminance = 13
Angle = 208
Color = Foreground color

17) Magic Wand Tool
Settings:
Mode = Add (Shift)
Match mode = RGB Value
Tolerance = 0
Use all layers = Not checked
Contiguous = Checked
Feather = 0
Anti-alias = Not checked

18) Click in the plain areas in
- Top left
- Top right
- Bottom left
- Bottom right

19) Effects > Texture Effects > Texture
Settings:
Texture = LB_texture02
Size (%) = 100
Smoothness = 0, Depth = 2
Ambience = 0, Shininess = 0
Color = White, Angle = 315
Intensity = 50, Elevation = 30

20) Selections > Select None

21) Edit > Paste As New Layer (your Tube)

22) Image > Resize (Shift + S)
Settings:
Width = 80 %
Height = 80
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resize all layers = Not checked
ok

23) Edit > Repeat Resize
Repeat until you have the tube showing to your liking.
Depending on the tube you work with, you might choose to resize in 50% steps to start with

24) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00, Strength = 47
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

25) Move Tool (M)
Move tube to position of your liking

26) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Horizontal & Vertical = 0
Opacity = 80, Blur = 25.00
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Not checked
(Or a setting of your liking)

27) Layers Palette
Activate bottom layer
Layers > New Raster Layer

28) Flood Fill Tool
Left click to flood fill new layer with Foreground Color

29) Time to play:
Reduce opacity to your liking
and/or
experiment with different blend modes
I chose blend mode "Saturation (L)" with 100% opacity for this tag.
With another version I chose "Color".

30) Layers > New Raster Layer

31) Layers > Arrange > Bring to Top

32) Selections > Select All

33) Flood Fill Tool
Right click to flood fill new layer with background color
(Or color of choice)

34) Selections > Modify > Contract
Settings:
Number of Pixels = 2

35) Edit > Clear

36) Selections > Select None

37) Layers > Duplicate

38) Layers Palette
Select bottom frame layer

39) Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Settings:
Radius = 5.00

40) Activate Top Layer
Layers > New Raster Layer

41) Add your artist's copyrights

42) Text Tool (T)
Settings:
Font = Chamomile (or Font of choice)
Size = 48 Points (or what suits your Font and Text)
Font Style = Bold (or what suits your Font and Text)
Alignment = Center
Direction = Horizontal and Down
Anti-alias = Sharp
Stroke width = 1.0
Create as Vector
Auto kern = Checked
Kerning = 0 (or what suits your Font and Text)

43) Type Text of choice and click on Apply

44) Layers > Convert to Raster Layer

45) Move Tool
Move text to place of choice

46) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
Horizontal & Vertical = 1
Opacity = 80, Blur = 1.00
Color = black
(Or a setting of your liking)

47) Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

48) Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask

49) File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Settings:
Set Compression value to = 10
Chroma subsampling = YCbCr 2x2 1x1 1x1
Save Exif data = Not checked
